What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is an online system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to manage and process applications for skilled immigrants who wish to settle in Canada permanently. Launched in 2015, it’s designed to select candidates who are most likely to succeed economically in Canada.

Who is it for?

Express Entry is for individuals applying under one of the following three federal economic immigration programs:

  1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

For individuals with foreign work experience and strong language skills.

  2. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

For skilled trades people in specific occupations such as electricians, plumbers, or chefs.

  3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

For those with at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada.

How Does Express Entry Work?

The process involves two main stages:

1. Entering the Pool (Creating a Profile)

You’ll first need to submit an online Express Entry profile with your:

·        Language test results (IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF Canada)

·        Educational credentials (ECA required for foreign degrees)

·        Work experience

·        Age

·        Job offer (if any)

·        Provincial nomination (if applicable)

Based on this information, you’ll receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score out of 1,200 points.

2. Invitation to Apply (ITA)

IRCC holds regular draws, typically every two weeks, and sends Invitations to Apply (ITA) to the highest-ranking candidates in the pool.

Once invited, you have 60 days to submit a complete PR application with supporting documents like:

·        Police certificates

·        Medical exam results

·        Proof of funds

·        Employment letters

IRCC aims to process most applications within 6 months.

What Affects Your CRS Score?

The Comprehensive Ranking System gives points based on factors such as:
