Types of Study permits
In Canada, there are generally two main streams for obtaining a study permit: the regular stream and minor student. Both streams require the same application forms, fees, and supporting documents, but they differ in application method, processing time, and eligibility requirements.

Regular Study permit
Documents needed:
1. Acceptance letter from post secondary DLI
2. Live outside Canada when you apply
3. Provincial attestation letter (PAL) or territorial attestation letter (TAL)
4. Pay 1 semester fees atleast
5. Financial document:
-
Proof of a Canadian bank account in your name
-
Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)
-
Education loan from a bank
-
Your bank statements for the past 4 months
-
Bank draft that can be converted to Canadian dollars
-
A letter from the person or school giving you money, or
-
Proof of funding paid from within Canada, if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program
6. Medical exam from IRCC Panel Physician
7. May need police certificate (if you need one)
8. Most recent transcript
9. Language test : IELTS -ACD or TEF
10. Travel Document: Passport
11 . Income Tax returns of person providing support

Minor Student
A person under the age of majority is a “minor child”.
Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan: Age of majority is 18
British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Yukon: Age of majority is 19
Needs Custodian: A custodian is a responsible adult, who is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, who will take care of and support the minor child. A custodian is optional for minors 17 years of age and older, but an officer can request one on a case-by-case basis.
Documents needed:
1. Acceptance letter from school
2. Pay tuition fees
3. Financial document:

Education loan from a bank

Parents bank statements for the past 4 months

Bank draft that can be converted to Canadian dollars

A letter from the person or school giving you money, or

Proof of funding paid from within Canada, if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program
