Federal & provincial governments have several business / investment programs, in which you can get work permit and further apply for permanent residency when eligible.

British Columbia- ENTREPRENEUR PROGRAM

  • Minimum Net Worth: C$600,000

  • Minimum Investment Required: C$200,000

  • Business Management/Owner experience: 2 years or if no business experience, must have the equivalent of a 2-year post-secondary diploma

  • Business Plan Required: Yes

  • Exploratory visit required: N/A

  • Education: Not mandatory

  • IELTS: Overall 4 band

  • Business Ownership %age in Canada: At least 51%

  • Need Support letter: N/A

 

Business, job and investment requirements

  • Establish an eligible new business or buy and improve an existing business

  • Make an eligible personal investment of at least CAD$200,000 in the business

  • Create at least one new full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

British Columbia- REGIONAL ENTREPRENEUR PROGRAM

  • Minimum Net Worth: C$300,000

  • Minimum Investment Required: C$100,000

  • Business Management/Owner experience: 2 years

  • Education: Not mandatory

  • IELTS: Overall 4 band

  • Need Support letter from community: YES

The application processing fee is $3,500 for the company and an additional $1,000 for each key staff proposed.

INTRA COMPANY TRANSFER PROGRAM

  • ICT is for companies those are established in there home country and want to expand in North America by establishing branch in Canada.

  • Parent company should be ltd. or incorporated in home country. Recent incorporation is also accepted

  • Permits international companies to temporarily transfer qualified employees to Canada in existing companies or setup new company

  • IC transferee should be transferred to a position in an executive, senior managerial, or specialized knowledge capacity

  • IC transferee should have been employed continuously for at least one year in the three-year period immediately preceding the date of initial application.

  • Get 1 year work permit, extendable to 5 – 7 year

START UP VISAS

  • Canada’s Start-up Visa Program targets immigrant entrepreneurs with the skills and potential to build businesses in Canada.

  • You need to have innovative business idea.

  • To apply for the Start-up Visa Program, your business idea or venture must get the support of one or more of the designated organizations listed below:

  • Venture capital funds

  • Angel investor groups

  • Business incubators

A letter of support is given to the applicant by the designated angel investor group or venture capital fund. It is proof that they will support your business idea.

A qualifying business means you created a business that meets the following conditions.

  • At the time you get a commitment from a designated organization:

    • each applicant holds 10% or more of the voting rights attached to all shares of the corporation outstanding at that time (up to 5 people can apply as owners)

      AND

    • applicants and the designated organization jointly hold more than 50% of the total voting rights attached to all shares of the corporation outstanding at that time

  • only lets you work as an entrepreneur to develop your business

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program

The Rural Entrepreneur Stream

  • Work experience: 3 years as business owner or 4 years at Senior position

  • Education: Secondary School

  • Language: CLB 4

  • Networth: C$300,000

  • Investment: Minimum of C$200,000 (More investment means more points)

  • Business establishment: 51% ownership or 100% ownership in business succession

  • Need to create job for 1 canadian

  • Need support letter from supporting community

  • Exploratory visit is must

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program

Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

  • Education: Secondary school, must be done in last 10 years

  • Work experience: 6 months of management or business ownership

  • Language: CLB 5

  • Business establishment: 34% Ownership

  • Business investment: C$100,000 in urban area and C$50,000 in regional area

  • Recommendation letter from AAIP approved designated agency

  • Settlement funds needed

  • Education: completed 2 years course in Alberta

  • Work experience: 6 months of management or business ownership

  • Should have PGWP

  • Language: CLB 7

  • Business establishment: 34% Ownership

  • Should provide economic benefit to Alberta

  • Candidates are not required to establish a business in Alberta until their Business Application is approved by the AAIP

  • Business Partners must be Canadian Citizens or PR

SASKATCHEWAN ENTREPRENEUR PROGRAM

  • Have a minimum of $500,000 (CAD) in Net Business and Personal Assets.

  • Have at least 3 years of relevant business management or entrepreneurial experience gained in the past ten years.

  • Plan to invest a minimum of $300,000 (CAD) in Regina and Saskatoon, or a minimum of $200,000 (CAD) in all other Saskatchewan communities.

NOVA SCOTIA ENTREPRENEUR PROGRAM

•    Age more than 21 years
•    Net worth of at least $600,000 CAD ($400,000 CAD if your business is outside Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM))
•    Invest at least $150,000 CAD of your own money to establish a business in Nova Scotia ($100,000 CAD if your business is outside HRM)
•    3 years experience as business owner or 5 years experience as Senior Manager
•    Language proficiency equal to CLB 5

NEW BRUNSWICK- ENTREPRENEUR PROGRAM

  • Have personal net worth of at least CAD $500,000

  • Investment of not less than CAD $150,000 before tax

  • Have at least 3 years’ experience actively managing and owning a business or senior manager
